In 2017, I lived through an experience that reminded me that life is truly precious.
I was fighting for my last breath, and my life flashed before my eyes. Since then, I carry this feeling every day: that being alive is a miracle. That every breath and moment we have is meant to be cherished and celebrated.
We already do this for the big moments. The birth of a new child, milestone birthdays, graduation, and weddings. We hire someone to make sure that those moments are held onto forever.
But what about the small ones? The ones we catch without meaning to, on an ordinary afternoon, and then just... keep, buried in our camera roll with a thousand others just like it.
The first floral portrait I ever made was supposed to be a Father's Day gift for my husband.
My daughter and I were sitting outside our favorite coffee shop. She reached down, picked up a flower, and stopped to smell it. The light hit her just then, golden, all around her, and I lifted my phone and took the photo without really thinking about it.
Months later, scrolling back through my camera roll, I stopped on that photo. And I felt it: this was the heart of love. The way that golden glow was wrapped around her. That is what I feel inside, every time I look at her.
That photo became the first floral portrait.
The second one I made was of my mother and me, at the airport, when I was two years old. She was leaving for the US, dreaming and hoping to build a better life for us.
My mother is a strong woman, and I hardly ever saw her cry while growing up.
Not until she opened that portrait.
We'd spent most of my childhood apart, and our bond took years to find its footing. But that portrait told her something I'd never been able to say out loud. It told her that I understood exactly what that goodbye cost her.
These are the moments that sit with us. A moment captured on a Tuesday afternoon. A goodbye at an airport gate.
These are the moments I want to hold onto and the ones I try to honor, one flower at a time.
Turn Life’s Precious Moments Into A Beautiful Pressed Floral Portrait You Can Hold.
Create, Gift, and Keep Forever.
Real flowers. Real photographs. Nothing digital.
Your photo is printed on archival Fuji Film Deep Matte Paper — a warm, fine-art surface that looks like it was always meant to live with flowers. Then real botanicals from our studio press are arranged by hand around your image: petals, stems, small blooms, textured leaves. Everything placed with intention. Sealed under glass in your chosen frame.
It's not a filter. Not a composite. Not AI-generated. Every flower in your portrait was a living thing. Every placement is a decision. And every portrait is made once, for you.
"The texture of the petals is genuine. The color is the flower itself — not a print of a flower, not a facsimile. A real petal, pressed and preserved."
You have a photo that deserves more than a screen.
That photo sitting in your camera roll
The one you've swiped past a hundred times. A face you love, caught perfectly. It deserves more than a screen — and more than a generic print.
A gift with genuine weight
Not a gift card. Not flowers that'll be dead in a week. Something that holds the moment you're trying to mark — and gets more beautiful with time.
A milestone worth keeping
New babies. Weddings. Anniversaries. A goodbye you didn't want to say. The occasions that ask for something more thoughtful than a card.
For flower lovers and makers
If you're the person who stops the car for a good bloom — you'll appreciate knowing exactly what went into yours and where every petal came from.
Three styles. Each one beautiful.
Your frame choice shapes the feeling of the piece. Some options include UV-protective glass to protect the pressed botanicals from fading.
Pressed Floral Portraits Made From the Moments You Love
Some moments just stay with you. You know, the ones that stop your scroll when you swipe through your camera roll.
A soft smile shared with someone you love, or that one golden afternoon you spent with your bestie, both of you feeling like life just couldn't be any better.
We turn those fleeting flashes into pressed floral portraits that bring a little wild wonder into your home.
Made for people who adore flowers, treasure beauty, and find quiet joy in giving gifts that hold meaning.
Your life's epic and everyday moments, reimagined with blooms.
How your portrait comes to life.
Four steps. No guessing. You'll have full visibility — and approval — before anything is sealed.
Upload your photo.
When you order, you'll upload your chosen photo directly in the cart. We print it on Fuji Film Deep Matte archival paper — a warm, fine-art surface that photographs beautifully with pressed botanicals.
Once your order arrives, Charina sends a personal note to confirm your preferences: any flowers you love, colors you want to echo, feelings you want the piece to hold.
- What makes a great photo? Natural, diffused light. A clear subject. Some breathing room around the edges for flowers to grow. And the one that gives you all the feels — trust that.
Choose your frame.
Select from our available frame styles — The Classic (5×7 gold brass, for desks and shelves) or Redwood Tales (5×7 or 8×10 UV glass, for wall display). We'll determine the right crop for your chosen size.
Not sure which to choose? The Classic is intimate — made for spaces where you'll see it up close, every day. Redwood Tales is made for the wall you want it to anchor.
We compose. You approve.
Charina selects flowers from the studio press with your portrait in mind — choosing blooms for color, texture, and the feeling she's heard in your preferences. Then she begins placing. You won't be left wondering where your piece is: she updates you as the portrait blooms.
When the design is ready, we send you digital proofs to review. This is your moment to sit at the virtual studio table with us.
- Up to two rounds of revisions are included. We'll discuss any adjustments together — before anything is sealed.
It arrives, ready to hang.
Once you've approved the proofs, Charina seals your portrait under glass and hand-packages it with care. It ships to your door, framed and ready to find its place.
Most portraits are completed and shipped within 3–4 weeks of your order date. We'll let you know ahead of time if anything shifts.
- Because these are real, organic botanicals, they thrive best away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Think: a gallery wall, a cozy shelf, a room that stays calm. Not a windowsill or fireplace mantle.
What makes a great portrait photo?
The right photo makes the whole difference. Here's what we look for—and what you can trust to tell you it's the one.
- Natural, diffused light.
Outdoor shade, window light, or golden hour are ideal. Avoid harsh flash or overhead lighting — it flattens the face and washes out detail. - A clear, visible subject.
The face—or the moment—should be unmistakably the focus. Not too distant, not blurred. The more defined the subject, the more the flowers can respond to it. - Breathing room around the edges.
Leave some space around the subject for the botanicals to grow into. A tight crop leaves no room for the flowers to frame the image—and the flowers are half the piece. - High resolution if possible.
The clearer the image, the better the archival print. Phone photos from the last few years are usually fine—but let us know if you're working from an older scan. - The one that gives you all the feels.
This is the real filter. If it stops you when you swipe past it, it's the one. Technical perfection matters less than emotional truth.
Where your portrait will live best.
Because these are real, organic botanicals, they respond to their environment. A little thought about placement means they'll stay vivid for years.
Away from direct sunlight
Like fine wine, your portrait prefers a shady gallery wall or a cozy shelf to a bright windowsill. UV glass helps — but shade helps more.
Cool & dry environments
Humidity is the enemy of pressed botanicals. Avoid bathrooms, kitchens near steam, or any area that gets damp. A bedroom or living room is ideal.
No fireplace mantles
Heat sources — fireplaces, radiators, heated vents — accelerate fading in pressed botanicals. Keep at least a few feet of distance, or choose a different wall entirely.
Everything you want to know before you order.
How long does it take to receive my portrait?
Most portraits are completed within 3–4 weeks of your order date. We send digital proofs before finalizing, so the timeline includes that review window. You'll receive updates throughout — you won't be left wondering where your portrait is in the process.
Can I see the design before it ships?
Yes — always. We send digital proofs once the composition is ready, and you have up to two rounds of revisions before we seal the frame. Nothing is permanent until you've approved it.
Can I request specific flowers?
Absolutely. When you place your order, note any preferences — flowers you love, colors that matter, specific varieties that have meaning. Charina will do her best to honor them from the studio press. If a specific flower isn't available, she'll find the closest thing and let you know.
Do you do pet portraits?
Yes! Pets make wonderful floral portrait subjects. The same process applies — upload your best photo of them, choose your frame, and we'll take it from there. Dogs, cats, horses — all welcome.
Are these really made by hand?
Yes — entirely. Every flower in your portrait was pressed in our studio by Charina, twice a week, from flowers sourced from local farms and our own garden. Each petal is selected and placed by hand around your photograph. Nothing is digitally composited, AI-generated, or outsourced. It takes the time it takes because that's what it is.
What's the price?
Each portrait starts at $175. This includes the archival photo print, all botanical materials, hand composition, digital proofs with revision rounds, and framing. Free shipping on US orders.
I need this for a specific date. Is that possible?
It depends on timing and our current queue — please reach out before ordering and we'll let you know if we can accommodate your timeline. For holiday gifts, commission spots open from September and fill quickly.
Can I ask a question before ordering?
Of course — we'd love to hear from you. Reach us at hello@orchidandpine.com and we'll get back to you personally.
